Technische Hochschule Georg Agricola
Future since 1816 – that is the motto of the TH Georg Agricola, which was founded in 1816 as the mining college of Bochum. Until today the sustainable winning of raw materials is one of the research fields making up its profile. Besides new issues are smart energy or material efficiency. At the Research Institute of Post-Mining, opened in 2015, the complex challenges which come along with post-mining are investigated interdisciplinary, such as mine closures, the aftercare measures needed and the future use of land and facilities. Currently, the focus is lying on the end of the underground hard-coal mining activities in Germany fading out in 2018. Moreover the students of the unique master program „Geotechnical engineering and post-mining“ learn, how to handle the perpetual tasks of mining.

The Association of Mining, Geology and Environment (VBGU), an employers association, works since more than 25 years as a stakeholder of its currently 45 ordinary member companies (representing entrepreneurs of the branches especially geotechnics, mining, consultancy and companies which offers special services in mining).
VBGU represent the ordinary politico-economic and socio-political plus tariff interests of its member companies and support the companies for instance in research and development plus further education. VBGU provides for member companies access to economic and political decision makers at federal level and state level.
VBGU itself is well connected and a member of several employer associations and non-governmental bodies in the Federal Republic of Germany in ranges of labour law, waste legislation, mining law, environmental law and water rights.
We organized colloquiums, field trips, workshops, annual meetings and events like parliamentary evening and the New Year’s welcome.
With our member companies we will “together, create a sustainable future".
In the VDMA Mining Association approximately 135 companies mainly medium-sized merged from the sectors underground mining, open cast mining, mineral processing technology, consulting, research and development.
These companies lastly represent an entire trade volume which reached some 3.6 billion Euro (2015). The mining supplier branch is one of the most export-intensive mechanical engineering sectors in Germany. Key markets are the Near and Middle East, China, North and Latin America as well as Europe.
We create the network among our member companies and support export activities by market data, liaison offices abroad, joint booths on foreign trade fairs (German Pavilions) as well as legal and technical information. By common research projects we do support the technological progress and organize the National, European and International Standardization in this field.
